Welcome to our new free monthly photography competitions! Each month we will run a themed photography competition and the winning image will be voted for by the public.

The themes for the year are:-

What does the winning photographer get? Fame and glory for a start!  You will also be the Featured Photographer in our monthly newsletter (the month that follows the competition) and be included on our London Photo Gallery website where you will be given the opportunity to sell your image. Finalists will also receive recognition in our online gallery display and on all our social media channels via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and our Blog etc.

We announce our abstract/fineart judge- the multi talented @rosie_hardy #photography #abstract

Rosie Hardy is a conceptual art photographer based in the Peak District. Her surreal self portraiture and creative photo manipulations capture escapism at its prettiest. Hardy has been shooting for a decade, working her way as a school girl trekking through fields – with the cheapest equipment money could buy – (clutching handfuls of props and looking rather out of place) to trekking through fields with slightly more expensive, mud covered equipment, but lots more confidence and excitement.

Her “Big Break” came at age 19 when she was discovered by Maroon 5, and was asked to shoot their album cover, “Hands All Over”. Since then, she has worked with numerous brands such as Microsoft, Pandora and Random House, as well as celebrities and musicians, but she still loves to shoot a decent wedding and just can’t seem to stay away from those fields…

Her work is inspired by emotion and human connection, and the comfort that can be found in art during times of loss and heartache.

I am a Berlin-based photographer.  From 2008 – 2011 I had the privilege to join the Masterclass of renown Professor Arno Fischer and in November 2012 my book ‘GEISTERSTADT’ (Ghost Town) was published by Edition Braus /Aufbau Verlag Berlin, which received a nomination of the German ‘Fotobruchpreis’ 2014.

In 2012/2013 I had the opportunity to photograph in the former Headquarters of the American Forces in Berlin Clayallee.

FINAL WALK HEADQUARTERS OF THE AMERICAN FORCES IN BERLIN 1945-1994

The headquarters of the American Forces in Berlin was one of the most important centres of the Cold War. Here, the most important decisions were made, Presidents were welcomed and negotiations with Diplomats took place – and the Luftbrücke was commanded. After nearly fifty years of residency, the USA handed the headquarters back to the Germans when the troups left Berlin in 1994. The main parts of the area have been lying idle since 1994. In 2011 the area was sold to an investor and transformed into luxury flats. Nearly nothing reminds of the presence of the Americans in Berlin.

 

I entered the competition because I think the London Photo Festival is the place to be right now and I am so very happy being 1st Runner Up of the architectural competition. Thanks to you all and especially to Johnny Kerr – I very much appreciate his comment on my work.

The High and The Mighty

This photo of St Paul’s Cathedral and The Millennium Bridge was taken the day after the super moon, the large full moon had made the tide higher than I’d ever seen it before. There was some beautiful light from the low winter sun lighting up the Cathedrals dome and making the high water shimmer. It’s a popular subject for most photographers due to having two very iconic London structures so close to each other. Sir Christopher Wren’s 17th century English Baroque architecture still dominates the London skyline while the modern Millennium Bridge adds some sleek metallic lines reaching across the river.

 

Let’s Go Round Again

Contrasting shapes and tones is what caught my attention to take this photo. The bright curves and the dark straight edges surrounding it, both brought together with the reflection in the window. Modern interior architecture at its best.

 

Tony is a self-taught photographer shooting with Nikon cameras. He is passionate about fine art, long exposure images and, based in London, The City is where he finds most of his inspiration. The theme architecture for London Photo Festivals competition was ideal for his style of photography. Being a previous competition runner up in London Photo Festival competitions, it’s a great achievement to once again have images selected in the top three.

We speak to Frank Machalowski @framafo winner in our #architecture #photocontest #photography #London

I’m Frank Machalowski, born in Berlin and live and work in Leipzig today. After studying Economics in Berlin and applying myself to various trades I work as a freelance photographer and artist since 2011. I first got into photography as a hobby and at the beginning I was mainly into digital photography, but then I started shifting back to film as I found the charming characteristics and atmosphere of film photography to be more fascinating. Today i even develop and print the most of my photos by my own. My major area of interest is the city and its immediate surroundings.
About the image ‘Hanover’:
This photograph is a part of my ongoing series ‘multiexpo’. For this series I photograph landmarks and architecturally interesting buildings as multiple exposures. It launched 2012 in Berlin, my hometown for 40 years, but then I extended this kind of photography to other German and European cities. For this series I use exclusive analogue film material in both dimensions (35mm and 6×6) and only b&w. The building on the picture is the administration building of a major German bank in the inner city of Hanover.
This is the third time that i submitted a photograph to a LPF competition. I love the city of London and I love photography. I travelled last October to London and take some pictures for my series there. A beautiful place for architecture photographing. I think London is becoming more and more important a place for the international photography scene.
