We speak to 1st Runner Up George Digalakis #photography #Athens #Greece #landscapephotography #photocontest

George Digalakis was born and raised in Athens, Greece, where he still lives today. His first contact with photography was back in 1974, when he received a “Nettar” as a gift from his father. However, it was only in 2011 when he first studied photography at “Photoeidolo”, and became acquainted with classic and contemporary photographers, that he realized this medium would offer him a gateway from reality, and enable him to express his inner world. His true love for the art of photography was finally conveyed.

“The reason I took part in the competition, is the opportunity to show my work in London, one of the major cultural centers in Europe. The fact that I did win the 2nd prize, gives me confidence and  is a great encouragement to continue my efforts in creating beautiful images.”

You can see more of his work here.

The festival works on a first come first served basis and you can find out more about it on our website and it takes place 18-20 May 2017.

2nd Runner Up of our #landscape #photography competition is announced! #London #photocontest

Congratulations to Angela Baschieri who is the 2nd Runner Up in our Landscape Photography Competition with her image ‘Amazing Tigray’.  You can see her image, the two runners up and the top 20 selected images at The Bridge Lounge in London from 26 September to early 2017.

This image was taken in the Gheralta mountain of Tigray. This magical landscape host around 200 rock-hewn churches, most of them easily accessible although some are situated on the mountain ranges and involve climbing through fairly difficult terrain.

The rock-hewn churches of Tigray offer the most spectacular views and the long Christian tradition. Until the mid 1960’s, the churches were almost unknown outside Tigray itself.

Winner of our #landscape #photography competition is announced! #London #photocontest #norway

Congratulations to Stian Nesoy who has won our Landscape Photography Competition with his image ‘Starry Night’.  You can see his image, the two runners up and the top 20 selected images at The Bridge Lounge in London from 26 September to early 2017.

These unique ice crystals were captured on a frozen river the high mountains of Norway’s west, winter of 2016. The image was shot in the narrow window of time between the river freezing over, but before snow blanketed the landscape. All while open water was found nearby, allowing the hoarfrost conditions needed to form the crystals. Seen here the crystals were at the largest I’ve seen before snow covered them.

In order to accurately capture the scene in faint moonlight, it was necessary to capture many focus points across the scene along with varying exposure times. All of which was painstakingly put together in post processing of the image.
